Liquid Sealed Doors.

More and more industry norms require fire resistant doors to be liquid sealed. This is to prevent toxic liquids from spreading during fires or to prevent extinguishing water to react with other chemical materials. This project was brought to life as part of a bigger sales project so the desired outcome was very clear.

After creating a testing setup we started designing the slanted shape needed for a liquid seal. After several tests all failed to comply with the norms I was asked to set up the more complex calculations to determine whether we were testing in the right direction. This way we came up with a new insight in the applied force of the liquid in the tank and succeeded to comply with the norms within the next days.
