The Problem.

A group of three students with the objective to create a stable and user-friendly control panel for large farms and greenhouses, that is a brief description of this project. The company Protonic is looking for new and good ideas for a control panel for the agricultural sector. This panel will give the farmer / grower remote control of his machines, greenhouse, his employees and give him information about the weather and company statistics.

The Process.

In small groups of three persons we started brainstorming for possible solutions. This resulted in some more standard results and this elegant book-like model. We started working on all concepts and after a period of 2 weeks we combined the good aspects of all the concepts into one panel. The book-like model had the design of our choice. We started positioning the elements like the usb-port, the power button, the emergency button and the battery shell button.

The Result.

The result was among the very best of all. We created a stylish, ergonomic and user-friendly control panel and interface. The rechargeable batteries were a big advantage. this way the panel didn’t needed to be attached to the docking station for 3 hours to get recharged. Also, we used a infrared touch screen instead of the resistive one. The infrared screen gives a better view angle on sunny days and comes with the functionality of a capacitive screen but also reacts to glove-touches.
