The Problem.

As part of the subject ‘Product and Form’ the students had to complete a series of 3 projects. One of the projects was a wooden locker lock. The dummy locker needed a mechanical lock. It just needed to fit and work, the smarter the solution the higher the note.

The Process.

This was a very simple exercise and the first good brainstorm resulted in the used solution. The standard and most used solution by the other students was one main panel with four little wooden sticks attached to it. The sticks would let the lock open and close when the ‘key’ was turned around.

The Result.

The solution used was also based on the rotating movement of the key. Instead of the wooden sticks, a few pieces of wire were used. Wire has the disadvantage that it is flexible so it was needed to build two systems. One system took care of the locking, to other of the unlocking.
